Most of you now know that I am a political junkie and government relations professional in my “other” life, and this Trove Tuesday post has a distinctly political feel to it.
On 10 December 1949, the Liberal Party (with their Country Party coalition partners), led by Robert Menzies, won government with 74 seats in the House of Representatives (out of a total 121).
On the Monday morning, the Sydney Morning Herald had this to say:
On 7 September 2013, the Liberal/National Coalition, led by Tony Abbott, won government with a predicted 90 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives.
And on the Monday morning, this is what the Sydney Morning Herald had to say:
2013, The Sydney Morning Herald, 9 September, p. 1.
I use Trove for my genealogy, but I also use it to read about past elections and compare community concerns to now.
Funny how the same issues get raised again and again...
