Trove Tuesday: Easter, Christ Church Lavender Bay and 'I Know That My Redeemer Liveth'

In the lead up to Easter, I thought I would see what I could find in Trove about Easter services at Christ Church Lavender Bay, where I got married three weeks ago and where my husband and I (oh, I love saying that!) will celebrate Easter.

As I was browsing the numerous articles, I encountered a trend - in each of the years 1897, 1898, and 1899, Handel's  'I Know That My Redeemer Liveth' was either performed by the full choir or a soloist.

Any one who has had the opportunity to attend a service or a concert at Christ Church will know that this amazing hymn would have been spectacular and uplifting each time.

In 1900, there was sadly no detail of the content of the Easter services:

And in 1901, the only detail is "Special music was rendered by the choir...":

In 1902 and 1903, Christ Church is missing from the reports of Easter Services published in the SMH on Easter Monday.
